I’m currently a senior writer at Rolling Stone magazine. My work primarily focuses on politics, conflict, and American culture, but I’ve covered everything from technology, labor movements, sports and the internet for a variety of national publications.
Since 2019, I’ve primarily written for Rolling Stone, where I’ve covered several national election cycles and the fringes of domestic political movements, from armed anti-fascists to increasingly authoritarian conservative youth groups. My work has also appeared extensively in The New York Times, where I’ve written features for the Style section, and GQ, where I’ve covered the politics and social impact of America’s new concept of masculinity. I’ve also worked overseas, filing stories to various publications from the Philippines, France, Lebanon, and Ukraine. In 2022, I was on the ground during the initial Russian invasion of Ukraine and have continued to visit the country on reporting trips since. In 2026, I joined the staff at Rolling Stone as a full time senior writer.
I graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2012 without, to my great regret, ever learning how to surf. I graduated from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2015, and now teach there as a masters project advisor.
In my free time, I train (and occasionally coach) Muay Thai kickboxing and dabble in MMA, where I spend most of my time getting turned into a pretzel by people who know how to wrestle. I’m originally from from Prather, California, and now live in New York City with my wife and cat.
